The Jackson County Fire Marshal is responsible for planning, coordinating and administering the countywide fire prevention and fire and life safety education programs.  

The Fire Marshal works with the local fire departments in lowering their fire insurance ratings as needed throughout the county. Also, the Fire Marshal’s Office maintains the contracts between the County and volunteer fire departments. Online Fire Insurance District Lookup

The Fire Marshal is responsible for the investigation of fires in cooperation with local and state law enforcement agencies. The Fire Department Chief may also request the Fire Marshal’s assistance in trying to determine the cause and origin of fires.

The Fire Marshal assists the Jackson County Emergency Management Office before, during and after any type of major emergency or disaster event when requested. The Fire Marshal also serves as the Assistant Emergency Management Coordinator.

The Jackson County Board of Commissioners approved and adopted the North Carolina Fire Prevention Code, Current Edition in addition to the Jackson County Fire Prevention and Protection Ordinance to protect the health, safety and welfare of the citizens of Jackson County.
